Dsi action replay’s do work on the 3ds, however the most recent hardware update is needed for it to be compatible, all you need is the software and the usb cable to connect it to your computer and the drivers will automaticly be updated. Action replay dsi/3ds is compatible with 3ds, dsi, dsi xl, ds lite and the original ds game consoles. Firstly you need to make sure that you have the correct action replay (see picture below) note the yellow label that reads updates, this is the only version of the traditional action replay that will work.
